GARDEN CITY
THE CHALLENGE
When a young couple inherited a family home, it was time for a comprehensive remodel. The dark, 1980s space needed to become more open, more light-filled, and more modern—while accommodating the owners’ work-from-home lifestyles.
When glass prices skyrocketed, a glass handrail for the staircase was reconsidered and ready-made spindles were employed without marring the designer’s modern vision.
In the living room, a reconfigured fireplace surround solved an age-old problem—where to put the television—while discreetly integrated LED lighting gave the room a new range of moods.
Several interior walls came down, opening the home to light and to the rhythms of modern life.
The once-crowded kitchen was tripled in size. Custom millwork (including bespoke storage solutions) replaced the old shaker cabinets.
In just ten months, the home was completely reimagined—and all within budget.
